Dr. John A. Serpa, MD, DDS, DABA

Dr. John Serpa is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with Subspecialty Certification in Pain Medicine. He is also deeply involved with the relatively new field of Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Serpa got started on his path with very humble beginnings, attending and graduating with honors from both Medicine and Dental Schools at U.C.E. in the Dominican Republic. He then went on to an internship at St Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, Anesthesiology at University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Pain Medicine at Cornell University/ New York-Presbyterian in NY.

In 2009, after working in two large Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine practices, Dr. Serpa decided to branch out on his own. He established his current private practice in Hialeah, Florida. He has received numerous accolades, and awards and is considered a thought leader in his field.

In 2016, Dr. Serpa then founded Gables Pain Associates in partnership with Dr. Celestino C. Neninger, MD.


Armando Gonzalez, MSN, APRN,FNP-C

Armando Gonzalez is a skilled Nurse Practitioner, dedicated to helping those who suffer from acute and chronic pain. Born in Miami, Florida, Armando earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2012.

By 2013, he began his career as a Registered Nurse, and over the next five years, he worked in the medical-surgical, women services, bariatric, and orthopedic units. 

It was during this time that he earned a certification in Telemetry, and was eventually promoted to Charge Nurse. After gaining these achievements, Armando enrolled at Chamberlain University, where in April of 2017, he earned his Master’s of Science in Nursing degree. Since September of that same year, working alongside Dr. John Serpa, Armando has served as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in interventional pain medicine.

As a way to better serve his patients and alleviate their pains, he gained a new certification in the summer of 2018 by completing the Joint Injection Course at Advanced Practice Education Services. With the comfort of his patients at heart, Armando plans to continue his work, while forever improving his ability to meet all of their needs. Away from his career, he enjoys spending his free time with his wife and their sons.


Julio C. Garcia, MSN, APRN,FNP-C

Julio is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner specializing in Pain Management under the general supervision of John A. Serpa, MD.

Julio’s philosophy has always been defined by a commitment to collaborative care. By forging strong relationships with his patients and other health care providers, Julio knows his patients will receive the best possible quality of care he can provide. He works tirelessly to ensure every health care objective is met.

Prior to joining Dr. John A. Serpa, Julio worked as an RN at Hialeah Hospital for five years, serving in intermediate care in the ICU Department. In 2013, Julio served as an RN in the Hematology/Oncology Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. In these roles, Julio was responsible for collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to make health care decisions appropriate for each patient’s needs.

Julio holds a bachelors’ degree in nursing from Nova Southeastern University and a master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain University. He also holds certifications in advanced telemetry, ACLS and BLS certifications, and is fluent in both English and Spanish.


Yaima Bonet, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Yaima, is an APRN born in Cuba, & naturalized in the United States 20 years ago. She received her Master in Science, Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Barry University in Miami, Florida in 2016. She completed her undergraduate studies at Florida International University in 2005 earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

She also has an active role in Palliative Medicine. Recently, she received the “2018 VITAS BEST Award” for outstanding service and dedication to Vita’s patients and families. Yaima continues to grow her interventional pain management skills and clinical expertise by assisting in innovative seminars and continuing education courses. She currently lives with her husband and daughter and, spending time with them is what she enjoys the most.


Jacqueline – Medical Assistant

Jacqueline is a Medical Assistant and a current student at Miami Dade College majoring in Nursing. She has been working with Doctor Serpa since 2017. She loves her job, seeing the smiles on our patient’s faces and knowing we made that happen assures her that she belongs in the medical field.


Auri – Medical Assistant

Auri is our Office Manager, Certified Medical Assistant and the cannabinoid consultant. She has been working with us for since 2014. She attended Miami Dade College and is passionate about her profession.
